The True Costs of Pet Ownership…
(24/07/2003)
The U.K. hosts a nation of pet lovers. Statistics from the Mintel Report
2001 shows that in 2000, there were 6.5 million resident dogs and 8
million resident cats in the U.K.
Even celebrities are turning to pet ownership. We often see the likes of
Geri Haliwell, pop star Pink and Radio One star Sara Cox being
photographed with or talking about their beloved four legged friends.
These animals lead a life of fame and fortune - just like their owners.
They are often entertained at star-studded events such as film premiers
and even a walk in the park is a good opportunity to get a quick snap!
But just like all animals, celebrity pets are not immune from illnesses
or accidents. However, the cost of unexpected veterinary bills may be an
easier pill for celebrities to swallow compared to the average dog or
cat owner where a simple accident or tummy upset can put a serious dent
into a household’s monthly budget.
Including pet insurance as part of planning for a pet could save many owners
from financial heartache. As Simon Wheeler, Marketing Director for
Pinnacle Healthcare Limited says: “So many owners disregard
pets
insurance and see it as unnecessary until they receive their first large
vet’s bill. No one can predict an accident or period of illness but it
is best to be prepared before taking the pet on.”
Simon Wheeler continues, “It is important for pet owners to investigate
the different policies on offer and not just be lured by the cheapest
price. Cover can vary significantly between the different providers!”
Pinnacle Pet Healthcare offers a comprehensive policy that will last a
pet’s lifetime. It includes cover for on-going conditions, hereditary,
congenital and behavioural problems and even covers alternative
treatments and a contribution to clinical diets. Claims are not
restricted to 12 months and renewal of the policy is not dependent on
claims experience. |
